The Date !!!

Well the journey was too long for my comfort .. Delhi looked more beautiful than ever.. and every now and then I imagined being a pro photographer clicking the Delhi roads, the moods and what not and dozed off thinking covering some scoop with my newly acquired camera.... " Sir , sir...sir.. kon se sector jayenge ?? " came the voice waking me up from my slumber. It was my driver asking me what part of city i lived so as to take the shortest path .. Sector 46 i said and directed him to the right direction . I even thought of clicking the road ahead as i saw thin traffic ahead on the front windscreen !!!.
I greeted my Mom and Dad , and off came the camera out to show them what i had bought .. quickly after wards.. i was sitting in my room looking at the camera and started studying each and every minute detail .

SONY A100
The SONY A 100  DSLR.is one beautiful camera i must say .. here goes what i perceived then and still admire about this DSLR.Good reviews about the same can be found all over the internet .,

As you hold the camera , the instinctive reaction is to look at the top . on Sony Alpha 100 you find your eyes first moving to right hand side to the metallic Dial which has all the scene modes mentioned. A100  has Auto, Program Auto(P) , Shutter (S)  & Aperture (A) priority ,Manual(M) and various other scene modes which include Night , Sunset , Sports , Macro , Landscape and portrait among others. The  dial can move 360degrees helping one move to the mode faster in either direction. The change in the mode is accompanied with a soft click giving a very solid mechanical feel . As you start turning the dial you are drawn to other side of the Hot shoe (on top of the flash )  to the dial on the other side which is of same diameter ( somewhat tilted on its axis a few degrees more than the mode dial)
Looking from top at the center there is a small button with Fn engraved. . This function dial helps you change the settings such as Metering ,Flash , focus Area ,  ISO , White Balance (WB) Dynamic Range (D-R) etc as per the requirement .  These  settings can be customized as per the requirement of the scene even when Auto mode is selected on the mode dial . There is a drive mode button at the right hand side nearer to the back of the camera and shutter button and two way rotating dial just over the hand grip mounted on very shiny metal on top of the hand grip.

As you move naturally to the back of the camera, there is an ON-OFF button placed just at the top left that can be switched ON and Off with left thumb.Right next to it is the view finder which is covered with the rubber cover. There is a  Diopter adjustment dial somewhat hidden on the right hand side of the viewfinder This is used by people who do not want to wear glasses while looking at the viewfinder . The dial can be adjusted for ones eyes sight .The two buttons next to the viewfinder on right are for Exposure and focus lock and have blue markings which signify that they have multiple functions . They are in fact used to Zoom in and out while playing the snapshots on the camera LCD. The camera protrudes out slightly below that and major portion of the back is covered with the LCD. Sony A100 does not have Live view on LCD. On left there are 4 small buttons which have small symbols of menu , display delete and play are painted.Below the LCS there is SONY and alpha 100 written in white. On Right hand side of the LCD there is a scroll dial with 4 direction arows on top of it and AF button in middle. This is a multi-funtion dial to scroll the display on LCD for various adjustments. The remote connection socket is below the dial and SONY feature button  of "Super Steady Shot"  at extreme right helps take sharper hand held  pictures . Right hand side of the camera slides open for the Sony Pro duo card and usb connection . The camera came with a USB transfer cable , an AV cable and a Battery charger.

Look at the front and you'll notice that its tallest at the hot shoe , which in turn  is slightly off center towards person's right who is looking at the camera.. SONY is engraved in white just below the built in flash . Two silver Dials  in either side having beautiful texture for grip . Looking from front the camera has a very large "Alpha" written in Greek on the lid in bright orange colour . and same alpha is on the left hand side of the camera below the knob.and just in right of the grove for metallic  shoulder strap. the lid also has SONY  written on the lid just below the Alpha symbol. Right hand side has the hand grip which protrudes  so as to divide the grip at one third of the length . This gives a very good hold to the camera but my pinky still goes below the camera is what i observed.. maybe as my hands are not the smallest in the world :).

The bottom of the camera has a grove with screw threads to mount the camera to  tripod, and a lid which opens to show the  battery. The Battery that comes with the camera is chargeable Li-ion battery pack .

The moment you open the big front lid by tilting it 15 degrees to your left you can see the A mount of Minolta with mirror and focussing screen in view. and i snapped in 18-55mm kit lens that i got along with the camera.

:Looking at the camera i was in simply love with this beauty . This was what i had wanted .. I repacked the whole thing and got ready to have a good night's sleep as my first date with this beauty  was simply amazing . and i was falling in Love!!!!!! .

Super - Takumar 500mm F4.5 Manual Lens- Is it any good !

With my impulsive buying getting better of me , i recently won on ebay  a super- takumar 500mm f4..5 manual beast of a lens. Initially i was cursing myself to the core , why on earth did i even  bid on the same? Post winning i browsed through eBay and found the price points of the same lens in other bids was significantly higher ( at least some respite ) . I paid for the same and waited for lens to arrive. All of my search on the lens and on images clicked using that did not help me much. I got more pictures on web of the lens itself instead of pictures clicked using it . Whatever limited pictures i could search raised my hopes  , and lens looked nothing but a stellar performer. Most of the reviews spoke about few negatives - 1. Heavy 2. Chromatic aberration. 3. Impractical for active wildlife. 4. MFD being 10 mts  Well , so the lens arrived.. It had no dedicated lens case and was packed in a bubble wrap. I had to pay customs duty which made the lens almost ar...

Smooth Trans Focus (STF) Mode - A test shot using Minolta Dynax 7 .

STF Mode test shot using Dynax 7 . , a photo by arnavkhorana on Flickr. Minolta Dynax/Maxxum  7 's unique feature of  Smooth trans focus (STF) effect certainly gives amazing bokeh and a "POP UP " effect . 7 shots at varying apertures are taken on single frame.. so tripod is must and object should be stationary . Use a tripod , keep the object stationary .. in case you are working with a model you might need to ensure that he/she does not  even bat an eyelid. As the 7 shots can take considerable amount of time ( in a second or so ) humans may sway a little  resulting in motion blur . This latency limits the use of this feature a little but having said that the effect is truly worth trying !!! and  .. if the background is at certain distance .. the "3D or Pop up " effect is more profound .  I haven't used the Sony 135mm STF Lens , so cant compare the effect of dynax/maxxum 7 and the one produced by th specialized lens. Nevertheless the feature is ve...
